Following the British North America Act,
new changes were made in the surveying sector as each province became
responsible for land surveys. In Québec, several departments,
services or branches exchanged this responsibility over the years.
1869
Under the provincial
government, the Département des terres de la couronne and the position
of surveyor general, which were under the responsibility
of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, continued to exist.
1897
Creation of the Département des terres, des forêts et des pêcheries, and of the Département de la Colonisation et des Mines, to which was attached the
Département d'arpentage.
1901
Reintegration of land
surveying into the department responsible for managing
lands.
1995
The Service de la concession des terres was abolished, and the responsibility for the
land register of public lands, the "terrier"
was transferred to the Service de l'arpentage.
1998
The Service de l'arpentage became
a branch of the Direction de l'information foncière
sur le territoire public (DIFTP).
2002
The Direction de l'information foncière
sur le territoire public became the Bureau de l'Arpenteur
général du Québec.
